Jurgen Klopp has hinted Liverpool could yet sign a new defender before the January transfer window closes.
Liverpool’s injury problems in defence increased during the 3-1 Premier League win against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday as Joel Matip joined Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Fabinho on the treatment table.
“If you have a centre-half available at a reasonable price, and one with the quality we need, then send me a message,” he said on BT Sport.
“We thought [about making signings] and we think the whole time but it’s about doing the right thing. We need to find the right player. It’s incredible what’s happening in the defensive line.”
Matip was replaced at half-time by Nathaniel Phillips and Klopp confirmed the player had injured ankle ligaments.
Klopp added: “It’s not just about bringing a body in. Nate and Rhys [Williams] have done so well.
“The situation is unbelievably strange. We will see what we do but this tonight did not help. It looks like something serious.”
